What Is SPC Flooring?

SPC stands for stone plastic composite or stone polymer composite. SPC flooring is an upgraded type of luxury vinyl flooring made mainly from natural limestone powder, polyvinyl chloride and stabilizer. It is known for dimensional stability, waterproof performance, high-density rigid core, indentation resistance and formaldehyde-free characteristics.

A typical SPC flooring structure includes UV layer, wear-resistant layer, PVC decor film, SPC rigid core and optional EVA or IXPE underlay. During production, waste from extrusion, cutting and profiling can be recycled through crushing and milling before being reused in the raw material system.

Full Production Process of SPC Flooring

Crushing and milling can be used at the beginning of the material recovery process. A complete SPC flooring production line usually includes crushing and milling, mixing, extrusion, UV coating, cutting, click slotting, optional V-groove painting, IXPE/EVA underlay laminating and packing.

1. Crushing and Milling

SPC production waste can be crushed and milled into powder for recycling into the raw material system. Recycled SPC powder can be used as part of the formulation after proper screening and quality control.

2. Mixing

Raw materials are put into the high-speed hot mixer according to the formulation. After uniform mixing and moisture removal, the blend enters the cooling mixer to prevent agglomeration and discoloration before extrusion.

3. Extrusion

The mixed material is fed into the extruder, plasticized by twin-cone screws and formed into sheet shape through the T-die. Wear-resistant layer and color film are laminated by a four-roller or five-roller calendering unit to form SPC boards.

4. UV Coating

A UV coating machine applies protective coating to improve dust resistance, scratch resistance, abrasion resistance and gloss uniformity.

5. Cutting

An automatic multiple ripsaw cuts large SPC boards into flooring planks according to the required size and production plan.

6. Slotting

Longitudinal and transverse double-end tenoners process the plank edges into the required click profile. Suitable click systems and PCD cutters are important for installation performance and edge quality.

7. V-Groove Painting

Optional V-groove painting applies paint to the SPC flooring edges to create a more natural and premium plank appearance.

8. IXPE/EVA Underlay Laminating

Hot melt adhesive bonds IXPE or EVA underlay to the back of SPC flooring, improving sound insulation and walking comfort for higher-end flooring products.

9. Packing

Finished planks are inspected and packed with semi-automatic or fully automatic packing machines according to the factory automation level.
